Abstract

The partisan theory argues that ideology influences on government decisions. This research determines whether the ideology of state governments in Mexico impacts on the public spending decisions in three items: personal services, transfers and public investment. The methodology is based on a quantitative analysis with information from the 2001-2020 period. The results indicate that left-wing governments spend more on transfers, while right-wing governments spend more on personal services. Nevertheless, there is no effect on public investment.
