Durante los ltimos aos los mtodos cualitativos han experimentado un renacimientoen la ciencia poltica, con una abundante literatura que promueve sus muchosusos en la disciplina. Este artculo describe la trayectoria y analiza las contribuciones de cuatropublicaciones recientes sobre mtodos cualitativos. Los temas comunes de estas publicacionesincluyen el proceso de seleccin de los estudios de caso, los factores temporales enel anlisis de los procesos polticos y el dilogo entre diferentes metodologas. Este ensayoargumenta que si bien esta literatura provee herramientas valiosas para llevar a cabo una investigacinrigurosa, al mismo tiempo permanece diferenciada y subdesarrollada con respectoa los mtodos cuantitativos. Los libros aqu reseados ofrecen un servicio valioso a losinvestigadores tanto por los problemas que plantean y no resuelven, como por las respuestasy sugerencias que proponen.
