Abstract

Political transitions are normally followed and accompanied, although they may also be preceded as channeled, by highly significant changes in the legal system of the respective conuntry, and such changes may even entail the substitution of one model of law for another. In these cases we may speak of a legal transition that may unfold in several dimensions. The Mexican legal system has undergone a transition on this sense during the last decades. Such transition is examined using a simple, two level model (decisions, expectations) and four cases taken from recent Mexican history. The ultimate meaning of such a process of legal transition is the growing degree of autonomy of the law vis--vis politics in our country
