Abstract

The research on democratization has dealt with the question of time from two different standpoints, that of representation and that of distribution. This temporal dimension in the procesa of political change is th.erefore a subject of interest as well as an invitation for political and social scientists to study. From this perspective, democratization processes can be considered as reconfiguration moments of temporal representations where the future becomes uncertain and the horizon limited. What we have witnessed is a failure of the democratic present, observing a concentration of politica on the issues of democracy and market, which corroborate the contemporary appreciation of the present. In Latin America, where this appreciation of the future horizon is followed by an appreciation of the present, this movement of temporal representations is particulary conspicuous. It particularly confirma the current decline of teleological time and a change towards a temporality where the future seems to be losing ground.
