Abstract

Based on the book by David Held, Models of Democracy, this critical essay offers a reflection on recent publications on the issue of demiocracy. Based on Helds own model, the authors idea on the "principle of autonomy" and on the "democratization of liberal democracy" are subjected to a rigorous evaluation. The essay ends with a discussion on the relevance of the theme of liberal democracy outside of the Western world.
