La herencia del presidente Impacto de la aprobación presidencial en el voto

Cuando en una democracia el presidente no compite por su reelección, el funcionamiento de la conexión electoral no es tan directo. En estos casos no resulta obvio cómo se transfiere la evaluación del gobernante en turno al voto por el candidato de su partido ni cómo modifican las campañas electorales dicha relación. El argumento de este trabajo es que la evaluación del Ejecutivo, aproximada por aprobación presidencial, funciona como un atajo de información acerca del futuro desempeño del candidato; conforme las campañas generan información sobre los contendientes, la aprobación del presidente saliente importa relativamente menos para decidir el voto. Usando análisis econométrico se prueban estas hipótesis para el caso de la elección presidencial de 2006 en México mediante cuatro encuestas nacionales realizadas entre octubre de 2005 y junio de 2006.
