Abstract

This paper presents a critical revision of the main model in political science that have incorporated ideas to the analysis of public policy. We argue that, notwithstanding their differences, these models possess are three main characteristics: a positive vision of rational choice theory, the notion that ideas should be studied along with other relevant variables, and finally, the adoption of an historical perspective. The essay concludes arguing that the revaluation of ideas in the study of public policy reflect the resurgence of interpretative models in political science.
